ESPOSIZIONE 42 (2002 – 2007)
If it is true what Georg Simmel suggests in his Essays on Landscape, that only distance can furnish a true aesthetic vision of a place, I guess this was probably my experience photographing EUR, the district of Rome built in the 30s for the 1942 World Expo never achieved. Coming back after years away, these places, where I grew up and went to school, appeared to me clearly in their rich icy emptiness, charged with historical and political symbolism for Italy. If I hadn’t chosen to live somewhere else these pictures probably would not exist today.
